The rapid growth in the Chinese economy and the loosening of government red tape are making it easier for Australian businesses to enter the market, whether as exporters or importers. But, says Lisa Goodhand of China Blueprint Consultants, it's important to do your homework and get the right advice. Good communication will help you build a lasting relationship with Chinese counterparts. Language skills help, but if you haven't got them, hire people who can speak for you and represent your business. The Internet has opened up a world of useful information, but don't let it be a substitute for direct contact - make sure the factory you've seen on the net really does exist!
