Under its new chairman Rod Sims, the ACCC is developing a new approach to small and medium business, recognising its crucial contribution to the Australian economy and its importance as a group of consumers deserving of protection from scams and false or deceptive market practices by big suppliers. He says he'll begin by "listening and learning". In this interview, deputy chairman Dr Michael Schaper outlines some of the initiatives already underway to make the ACCC more user-friendly for SMEs. They include a more readable style in publications and on their website, to make life easier for busy people to keep pace with regulations and compliance in a whole range of activities.
