Date: 01/12/2024 There's been a lot of hype, and a lot of fear, about new so-called wage theft laws that come into effect in January. But the Fair Work Ombudsman, Anna Booth, says there's nothing to worry about if you have made an honest mistake. Then we speak to Wes Lambert, who's the CEO of the new Australian Restaurant &Cafe Association, about efforts to fight a ban on card surcharges that's being promised by the Prime Minister. Insurance is getting far more expensive and harder to find, so Bruce Billson, the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman, gives us some practical advice on how to trade through what's being described as an insurance crisis. And speaking of trading through, as the holiday season descends on the small business world, Elise Sharply, a partner at Deloitte, takes us through a recent report by the firm that found 90 per cent of Australians intend to stay at home and spend less this year. It's not great news, so we follow that interview with some great coping strategies from Lyndall Spooner from Fifth Dimension Research and Consulting. Communications Specialist Leah Mether says employee satisfaction is at an all-time low and that it's mainly being caused by poor leadership. Leah gives us some practical tips for changing the situation. And, still on personnel matters, Ilona Charles from Shilo People explains how to incorporate human resources management into your business strategy. Finally, a success story: Jason T Smith talks about his new book, called 'Unlikely', that describes his journey from a single physio practice to 100-million-dollar businesses. |
