Date: 01/11/2024 It's a time of great regulatory change for small businesses, with the government planning to implement several new pieces of legislation that will affect us all. Our cover story this month explores some big changes to the privacy act that, if they pass Parliament, will affect Small Businesses. Lyndall Spooner, from Fifth Dimension Research and Consulting explains how to prepare. Then the principal at Law on Lydiard, Paul Cott, outlines other changes — this time to the Fair Work Act regarding flexible working times. After all of that, the CEO of the peak small business lobby group, the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia, Luke Achterstraat gives us a bit of a lift by outlining the efficiencies that can be made through adopting new technology, particularly regarding artificial intelligence and cyber security. Negotiation specialist and author Glin Bayley offers some tips on becoming a great negotiator, and management consultant, Bryan Whitefield, tells us how the best big decisions are actually made by teams — not individuals. One of the biggest issues – and biggest stresses – business owners face is poor cashflow. Senior Manager at Forvis Mazars Werner Botha shares some strategies on how to make sure that cash keeps flowing. Sales teams can also have difficulties generating new business, so coach and author Anna Glynn takes us through her system to boost sales confidence. And finally, the Principal Strategy Technologist at data experience platform Domo, Brad Kassel, explains how hype around AI has driven businesses to adopt it without fully understanding it’s capabilities and limitations. |
