For the first time, the Minister for Small Business now has a seat at the Cabinet table. What effect will that have, and what should the minister be trying to achieve? Ken Phillips, CEO of Independent Contractors of Australia, says the main task is to be an effective advocate for small business at the highest level of government - success will be measured by the outcomes achieved. There's also to be a Federal Small Business Commissioner, and Ken Phillips believes that role needs more teeth - like the Commissioners in the various states - if it's to be effective.
