Sheer persistence can take you a long way in business, but make sure you look after your staff. Carolyn Creswell was an 18-year-old Arts student when she turned a part-time job into a business, producing and marketing high-quality muesli under the brand-name Carman's Fine Foods. Seventeen years later, she lists the major supermarket chains and Qantas among her customers and exports to 23 countries. Her persistence has well and truly paid off. One of her guiding principles is to look after her staff, with simple strategies in place to keep them both motivated and content.
