2008 was the worst year in the Australian sharemarket's 107 year history. Tim Lincoln, of Lincoln Stock Doctor, expects things to improve during 2009 and the market to regain its previous peak within 3 to 5 years. But he has some home truths about practices which he says have turned sharemarkets worldwide into huge gambling pits - hedge funds, short selling, automatic stop-losses and margin lending, which have the effect of further driving down stock prices in a declining market.
