Growing Millions!
12 years ago it was a two-shed business with a turnover of 240 thousand dollars. Now, turnover is 38 MILLION dollars - with a further 40 million earmarked for expansion during the next 5 years. That's the remarkable story of Flavorite Hydroponic Tomatoes. Co-owners Mark Millis and Warren Nichol started the company in Warragul , Victoria. With a long background in wholesale fruit and vegetables, and marketing, they spotted the need for a consistent, quality supply of tomatoes for the Australian market... something the major supermarkets were crying out for. It's a story of constant change and big picture vision. Expansion plans include building two of the biggest hydroponic glass houses in Australia . They'll be state of the art - but as we'll hear from Mark Millis shortly, growth depends on innovation. The business started by capturing supply from a fragmented source - independent tomato growers operating in a cottage industry. Mark Millis tells Heather Dawson those growers are still important, but it was time for a professional, coordinated approach. Topics: Success Stories |
